Artist's Description

I drew this with a thick graphite stick, from an old photo I bought at an estate sale. The boy's eyes were haunting to me, as well as the dark circles under his eyes. I love turning these old, forgotten photos into art pieces. It lets them live on in some small way.

I spent part of my childhood surrounded by the beauty of the Mojave Desert, around Victorville, California, and spent another part of my childhood in Northern Illinois farm country, in Ridgefield, Crystal Lake, and Belvidere. As a result, I love depicting Country scenes, and, particularly a subject I call "A Vanishing America." Drawing was what I did as soon as I could hold a pencil. At about 15, my brother (also an artist) gave me a set of professional watercolors. I was thrilled and immediately felt a new sense of seriousness about my art. I even sold a few at county fairs and to friends, but for pretty cheap. I attended college at B.I.O.L.A. (The Bible Institute of Los Angeles), where I minored in Art and joined The La...
