This was painted from imagination, wanting to have a field, leading to a vanishing point, with a farm as the focal area. Since the sky had lavender in it, I carried out the lavender color in the field. Blackberries added in lower left to break up monotony of rows of crops.
I spent part of my childhood surrounded by the beauty of the Mojave Desert, around Victorville, California, and spent another part of my childhood in Northern Illinois farm country, in Ridgefield, Crystal Lake, and Belvidere. As a result, I love depicting Country scenes, and, particularly a subject I call "A Vanishing America." Drawing was what I did as soon as I could hold a pencil. At about 15, my brother (also an artist) gave me a set of professional watercolors. I was thrilled and immediately felt a new sense of seriousness about my art.
